FAIRFIELD, Solano County — November 5, 2026. Fairfield’s Measure P shows 13,443 Yes and 12,650 No votes in the county’s later report. Yes leads by 793 votes, or about 51.52% of the 26,093 valid Yes/No selections reported. These totals are unofficial.

What voters were deciding

The proposal would increase Fairfield’s local sales tax from 1% to 2% and remove its scheduled 2033 expiration. The exact tax liability depends on taxable transactions and applicable exemptions; it is not a fixed annual household charge. The measure is a general municipal tax, distinct from Solano County’s hotel tax or business tax questions. A preliminary majority is not enacted law until the official election result and measure provisions take effect.

Other elections in Fairfield

On the same city ballot, Measure Q asks whether the city clerk should be appointed rather than elected, and the city’s council has separate district races. The narrow District 1 council race is separated by 13 votes in the same county report. Read District 1 election coverage.

Why the numbers can still change

The November 4, 2026, 7:40 p.m. Pacific count shown by KQED’s Solano County election report is a dated unofficial snapshot. County authorities continue the legal canvass, including valid vote-by-mail ballots, provisional selections and required reviews. The number of votes outstanding in a specific city contest is not the same as all unprocessed ballots countywide. Precinct reporting percentages also do not prove every lawful ballot has been counted.

Where to check the next result

The Solano County Registrar of Voters publishes the official results. County elections are not certified by a news outlet or by an early candidate statement. Statewide certification follows on December 11, 2026. This article preserves the source timestamp so later tallies can be accurately compared.
