FAIRFIELD, Solano County — November 5, 2026. Fairfield Measure Q, concerning how the city’s clerk is selected, has 12,562 No votes and 12,186 Yes in the later Solano County tally. The No side leads by 376 votes among 24,748 reported valid selections. The race is not officially certified.

What voters were deciding

The question would make the city clerk an appointed rather than elected position when the incumbent’s term ends or the office becomes vacant. The role involves municipal records, elections and public documents; the proposal changes the selection method, not every obligation of the office. This is a citywide charter or administrative choice, not a candidate race for a City Council district.

Other elections in Fairfield

Fairfield’s separate Measure P asks whether to increase and extend a local sales tax; it has an early Yes lead of 793 votes. Our Measure P explainer describes the different tax question. The council races in Districts 1, 3 and 5 cannot be inferred from either ballot-measure percentage.

Why the numbers can still change

The November 4, 2026, 7:40 p.m. Pacific count shown by KQED’s Solano County election report is a dated unofficial snapshot. County authorities continue the legal canvass, including valid vote-by-mail ballots, provisional selections and required reviews. The number of votes outstanding in a specific city contest is not the same as all unprocessed ballots countywide. Precinct reporting percentages also do not prove every lawful ballot has been counted.

Where to check the next result

The Solano County Registrar of Voters publishes the official results. County elections are not certified by a news outlet or by an early candidate statement. Statewide certification follows on December 11, 2026. This article preserves the source timestamp so later tallies can be accurately compared.
